RETURN TO YOUR FIRST LOVE

Introduction

It is possible to remain active in ministry while our personal love for Christ becomes weak.

The church at Ephesus had works, patience, and endurance, but Jesus told them they had left their first love.

The Message

Ministry activity is valuable, but activity cannot replace relationship.

We can preach, teach, sing, organize programs, attend meetings, and serve others while neglecting prayer, Scripture, obedience, and personal fellowship with God.

Jesus wants our hearts.

Returning to our first love means returning to sincere devotion to Christ.

It means rediscovering the joy of prayer, the hunger for God’s Word, the desire to obey, and the love we once had for serving God.

Lessons

1. Examine your relationship with Christ.
2. Do not allow ministry responsibilities to replace personal devotion.
3. Return to prayer and God’s Word.
4. Ask God to restore your spiritual hunger.

Conclusion

If your spiritual life has become cold, do not simply continue pretending everything is fine.

Return to Christ sincerely.

He is not calling us merely to work for Him. He is calling us to know and love Him.
