WHEN GOD CALLS — RESPONDING TO HIS DIRECTION

Introduction

Throughout Scripture, God called people for different purposes. He called Samuel, Moses, Isaiah, Jeremiah, the disciples, and many others.

God still leads His people today, but believers must learn to distinguish God’s direction from their own desires.

The Message

Samuel heard God’s call but initially did not understand who was speaking. Eli eventually helped him recognize that God was calling him.

This teaches us that spiritual maturity requires learning to recognize God’s direction.

However, not every thought, feeling, dream, or message should automatically be called God’s voice.

God’s direction will never contradict His revealed Word.

When we believe God is leading us, we should pray, examine Scripture, seek wise counsel, and consider whether the direction produces obedience to Christ.

God’s calling is not always comfortable. Sometimes obedience requires courage, patience, sacrifice, or stepping into an unfamiliar season.

Lessons

1. Learn to listen before you act.
2. Test what you believe you have heard against Scripture.
3. Do not confuse personal desire with divine direction.
4. When God gives clear biblical direction, respond with obedience.

Conclusion

God is able to guide His people. Our responsibility is to remain humble, attentive, prayerful, and obedient.

Do not run ahead of God, and do not deliberately resist Him when His Word makes His will clear.
